Callendar House Marriage Ceremonies FAQs

1. How do I book the venue and registrar?

You can book a ceremony online via MyServices - My Falkirk.

2. How many guests can I bring?

  • The Study (Smaller Ceremony Room): Suitable for an intimate ceremony with the couple and two witnesses.
  • The Queen’s Room (Larger Ceremony Room): Accommodates the couple and up to 32 guests (children under two years old are not included in this count).

3. Can I have a photographer or videographer?

Yes, you are welcome to bring a photographer or videographer, and they will not be included in the guest count. If you are hiring a professional photographer, they must bring a copy of the photography permit, which can be purchased as an add-on when booking your ceremony. The permit is available at a discounted rate of £60 (original price £100) and covers both the house and the park. Please refer to our photography guidelines for more information.

4. Can I bring my own flowers?

Yes, you may bring your own flowers. However, please note that we do not have storage facilities available, so all floral arrangements must be taken away after the ceremony.

5. Is confetti allowed?

Biodegradable confetti is permitted outdoors in the park. However, confetti is not allowed inside the building.

6. Is parking available?

Yes, there are two recommended car parks near Callendar House, accessible via Seaton Place (past the high flats and down towards the house). Disabled parking is available directly in front of Callendar House.

7. Is there disabled access to the ceremony rooms?

Yes, both ceremony rooms are fully accessible. Entry to the house is available via an accessible entrance, and a lift provides access to the ceremony rooms. If you have specific accessibility requirements, please contact us in advance at callendar.house@falkirk.gov.uk.

8. Can we bring our dog to the ceremony?

Only service dogs are permitted inside Callendar House. However, many couples arrange for a friend to bring their dog along for photos outside after the ceremony.

9. Can I view the ceremony room before booking?

Photos of the ceremony rooms are available online. As the rooms are in daily use, in-person viewings can be arranged if necessary, by contacting the venue directly.

10. Is Wi-Fi available?

Yes, free Wi-Fi is available in both ceremony rooms. Connect to Falkirk Council Guest to access the service.

11. Can we have music during the ceremony?

Yes, you can arrange music for key moments such as guest arrival, walking down the aisle, signing the register, and any post-ceremony celebrations. A Bluetooth speaker is available for use, or we can play a CD if provided in advance.

12. Can we livestream the ceremony for family and friends who cannot attend?

Yes, both ceremony rooms have a strong Wi-Fi connection, allowing you to set up a livestream without issue.

13. How early can we arrive at the venue before the ceremony?

We recommend arriving 15 minutes prior to your scheduled ceremony time. Callendar House is open from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM, and you are welcome to explore the museum, teashop, or gift shop within these hours.

14. Can we have a piper play as we enter the ceremony room?

A piper can play you into the Queen’s Room; however, due to space and location limitations, this is not possible for ceremonies in The Study.

15. Is there an option to have a toast after the ceremony?

Yes, we offer a post-ceremony toast option. When booking your ceremony, you can select the option to receive more details. For further inquiries, please contact callendar.house@falkirk.gov.uk.

16. Can we book a ceremony directly with Callendar House?

No. Callendar House only hosts ceremonies that are booked through the registration service. Ceremonies outside of those offered by the registration service cannot be accommodated at Callendar House.

17. Where will the list of intended marriages be displayed?

The list of intended marriages will be displayed at Falkirk Library starting from 1st May.

18. What should I do if I have booked a photography permit and catering but decide to change my ceremony date with the registrars?

It is your responsibility to contact Callendar House at callendar.house@falkirk.gov.uk to update the date of your photography permit and/or catering arrangements.

19. Can I hire a different room for a ceremony outside the designated days/rooms on offer?

No. The available ceremony days and rooms are fixed at this time, and alternative spaces cannot be accommodated for ceremonies. However, if you wish to hire an additional space for a celebration afterward, please contact Callendar House directly to discuss your requirements.
